POST LOVIN’: ‘IF THEN WAS NOW’ – AMBERS UNTITLED BLOG

Growing up in the 90′s was so dope. Throwbacks from the likes of Lil’Lim, 2Pac, Biggie, Jodeci brings back so many great memories! Fashion in the 90′s was cool too. Loud colours, bold statements… ah the memories.

I totally got that 90′s feel from Blumarine’s Fall fashion show back in Feb and it seems I wasn’t the only one. Amber of Amber’s Untitled Blog did a cool post on the connection between past and present trends, and just how fashion repeats itself and borrows looks from years back.

Head on over to the original post for more pics.

POST LOVIN’: ‘CELEB STYLE LOAFER LOVE’ – SECRETIVE STYLE

Back when I was a teenager (God I sound old!), my fav type of shoe was the Loafer. I had consciously spent most of my life in flats… I know, how very exciting, but at 5’9″ I totally didn’t think being taller than all the cute boys was a cool thing, ya know? Haha.

It’s a given that Loafers will always be in fashion, but I honestly cannot recall a time when they were as popular as they are now (ironically around the time I’ve discovered a new found love for heels! Doh!).

Well, if you’re feeling the trend as much as I did when I was a teenager or more importantly as much as celebs like Beyonce, Nicole Ritchie, Olivia and Jessica Biel, then head on over to Secretive Style for the full post!

SAME TREND, DIFFERENT YEAR: SHEER PANELING

Sheer paneling is most definitely a reoccurring trend (well, what trend isn’t?) and I thought it’d make a cool post, if I combined some of the chicest celeb looks from the two years the trend seemed to be most popular, 2009 and this present year, 2012.

Often striking a careful balance, between feisty and classy, a flash of skin but not in an overbearing manner, the sheer trend is a fun trend to try! Noticeably, the trend was much raunchier back in 2009, with these sexy black numbers below, modelled by the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Emma Watson…

I personally LOVE the trend and have quite a few items in my ‘drobe that allows me to be a bit cheeky and show off some skin! So far this year, my favourite sheer looks have come from the effortlessly stylish Gwen Stefani and the beautiful Zoe Saldana!

TRY THE TREND: ‘HIGH-LOW HEM’ – CONFESSIONS OF A GLAMAHOLIC

The Kardashian sisters know a lot about style, what’s in, what’s hot and all the rest of it, so when you spot a trend that all three sisters are diggin’, it’s definitely a trend to try, in my opinion!

Shorter in the front, and longer in the back, the high-low hemline is flirty, playful, cheeky and elegant all rolled into one! I don’t own such a dress as yet, but they DO catch my eye when I’m out shopping.

Thinking of trying the trend with me? Well there’s some additional inspiration from many more celebs, over at Confessions Of A Glamaholic!.

POST LOVIN’: ‘CROSS BODY BAGS’ – MADE BY GIRL

For me, a good cross-body bag is close second to a good clutch bag. Funny that, seeing as you can’t get more impractical than a clutch bag and more comfy and hands-free than a cross over! Sigh… me and my extremes!

Lauren of LA In The Bay put together this awesome blog post for Made By Girl and I just love the bags that are featured (above) along with the seven bags she picked out. Check ‘em out here.

UP-AND-COMING FASHION TRENDS 2012

We may be halfway through the year, but there’s still plenty for fashion lovers to look forward to. So far, 2012 has been characterised by a love for prints, colour blocking and the surprise return of neons, and these look set to be with us all the way through the summer. Prints in particular have been everywhere, from dresses to bags and shoes, with animal prints and Aztec styles leaping out amongst the usual florals. For a few examples, check out the selection of womenswear at Bank Fashion.

Meanwhile, blocks of colour have been used in a variety of combinations to bring a lively twist to everyday ensembles by breaking up traditional lines. This use of bold hues has fed into the revival of the Bright: flowing tangerine chiffon skirts, acid green blazers and candy-pink heels have all been livening up the catwalks this year. Neon is surprisingly easy to wear and experiment with, either by pairing with neutrals or going neon-on-neon for the truly adventurous.

If you’re more of a shrinking violet, florals are the go-to trend. This year, longer-length skirts and maxi dresses in floral prints are bringing a touch of the glamorous 1940s and 50s to the table, and headscarves provide another place to mix up your prints.

With such a strong focus on colour and patterns this year, it can be handy to know what the experts think we’ll be wearing in a few months’ time. As autumn approaches, colour specialist Pantone predicts that shades will tone down a little, while still retaining the bold, eye-catching theme. Pink Flambé, Ultramarine Green and Honey Gold are their picks for the cooler months, while neutrals include the sophisticated brown French Roast and Titanium, a classic cool grey.

So what’s in store for the rest of the year and beyond? Well, the return of 1920s style, originally inspired by the TV series Boardwalk Empire, will become even more prominent with the release of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby later on in 2012. This means we’re likely to see a modern take on flapper fashion – expect glamorous drop-waist dresses, headbands and fascinators to come into style. The preppy nautical and sporty styles that originated in the Jazz Age – think tennis and golf shirts with long shorts – should also be more popular than ever.

COLLECTIONS: STELLA McCARTNEY RESORT 2013

Really enjoyed sifting through the Stella McCartney Resort 2013 images over at Fashionologie. Think the garden setting was clever (and obvs intentional), as all the pieces from this collection, are fun, upbeat and Summer fete-inspired!

Stoked to see that the neon trend is still going strong, and spilling into more and more seasons. Oh, and both the lace and floral print trends don’t seem to be going anywhere either.

Lookbook lusting! My favs from the collection…
